A Louisville police officer lent a helping hand to three tiny puppies he found in a backpack near a crash site.

The Louisville Metro Police Department shared a picture of the officer and the puppies on Facebook.

The picture shows the officer with the puppies named Ali, Larkwood, and Madison.

Each dog was named after streets nearby where they were rescued last month.

Police say the officer had responded to a crash when he heard noises coming from a nearby backpack.

The officer took them to a local veterinary, where workers cared for them.

Police say the driver of the vehicle involved in the crash was wanted for outstanding felony warrants and was in possession of narcotics.
