A non-profit with a mission to honor military members and first responders came to central Ohio Monday.

Carry the Load has a Memorial May awareness campaign encouraging people to walk with their national relay team to honor fallen heroes.

The organization is holding rallies at more than 55 cities across the country, including part of a Midwest route from Minneapolis to Dallas that stopped in the Columbus area.

Dallas firefighter Brandon Asberry is part of the Midwest Relay team, "I've had people pull up next to me while on I'm on the bike and ask, "hey what are guys out here for?" you tell them, and they say "oh man keep going, good job. We appreciate you."

Asberry was joined by a group of people that walked along Olentangy River Road. Along for the walk was Army veteran Rick Henson, "It's great to think about our military, our first responders, our police officers. We have people who are making great sacrifices for all of us,” said Henson.

Carry the Load’s May awareness campaign will lead up to a 20-hour Dallas Memorial March on Memorial Day Weekend.
