The Big Sandy Scholar Athletes of the Week are chosen weekly by the school administrators of their respective high schools.
This week, we are pleased to announce Derek Dang and Mason Kramer.
Franklin Heights Senior Derek Dang
Athletically, Derek runs indoor and outdoor Track and is a member of the 4x100 relay team. He's also a 2-year Varsity Letter of the Cross Country team.
Academically, Derek has earned top 15 of his class past 2 years and will have 4 Advanced Placement classes completed by graduation, including AP English III & IV, European History and Calculus.
Derek is the President of National Honor Society, a member of Student Council, a Band Officer and section leader in saxophone and participated in Southwestern City Schools Honor Band.
With a GPA of 4.1, Derek plans on attending The Ohio State University.
Canal Winchester Senior Mason Kamer
Athletically, Mason is a 4-year Varsity golfer and 2-year team leader.
Academically, Mason will have 4 Advanced Placement classes completed by graduation, including AP Government, Biology, US History and English. He also is dual enrolled in English Business and Medical Terminology college courses.
Mason is Founder of Social Outreach club ‘Outreach Designed to Increase Involvement in Elementary Schools’ and a member of Student Council, Art Club and Yearbook. He is Co-Director of Talent Show while directing Spirit Week the past two years.
Mason has not yet decided on a college, but has a GPA of 3.59.
During football season, each school administration chooses a senior athlete that is academically and athletically eligible. At the end of football season, Heather and Jared will enter 18 other athletes and will be eligible to win a $5,000 scholarship to their college.
