The Big Sandy Scholar Athletes of the Week are chosen weekly by the school administrators of their respective high schools.
This week, we are pleased to announce Jackson Brandstaetter and Morgan Marquez.
Pickerington North Senior Jackson Brandstaetter
Jackson is a Cross Country and Track and Field athlete. He is a 2-year varsity letter and current team captain of the PNHS Cross Country team. His track career includes 2 varsity letters and was captain his junior year.
Academically, Jackson has been on the Distinguished Honor Roll all four years of High School. By the time he graduates, he will have taken 6 Advanced Placement classes - AP U.S. History, AP Language and Composition, AP Economics, AP U.S. Government, AP Physics and AP Calculus.
Jackson is the 2-year Vice President of National Honor Society, 2-year Student Council representative, 2-year Student Council Vice President, 2-year Team Physics member and Outdoor Education leader at Pickerington North. He also has been a part of the Dominican Republic mission trip for the past two years, and plans to go back this year. Jackson also says he likes to go into PLSD elementary or middle schools for student council and team physics, because he gets to help out the kids and teach them something new.
With a GPA of 4.35, Jackson will attend Ohio Northern University next fall.
Gahanna Lincoln Senior Morgan Marquez
Athletically, Morgan is a 4-year letter in Soccer and Senior Captain. She was named Defender of the Year, has received the Special Mention Award and is a 2-time Award winner for Second Team.
Academically, Morgan will have 2 completed Advanced Placement classes by graduation - AP Biology, AP Chemistry. She also is enrolled in Honors English, Honors Spanish and Honors Math. She's a 3-time recipient of the Academic Excellence Award and a member of the National Honor Society.
Morgan is also involved with Club Soccer and referees youth soccer. She also is a member of the Ski Club and the Link Crew.
Next fall, Morgan hopes to attend Ohio State University to pursue Pharmacy. Morgan has a GPA of 4.085.
During football season, each school administration chooses a senior athlete that is academically and athletically eligible. At the end of football season, Jackson and Morgan will enter 18 other athletes and will be eligible to win a $5,000 scholarship to their college.
