Pittsburgh Steelers general manager Kevin Colbert confirmed Wednesday that injured linebacker Ryan Shazier won’t play in 2018.

"We know that and he knows that," Colbert told reporters at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis.

Colbert said Shazier will still be an integral part of the team, helping with scouting and coaching as he continues to rehab from a spinal injury suffered Dec. 4 against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Shazier told teammate Roosevelt Nix on a podcast last week that he plans to walk again on his own and return to the field.

Shazier had spinal stabilization surgery and was hospitalized for two months.

“I’m really trying to come back and still be a Pro Bowler,” Shazier told Nix. “I’m sorry, because I feel I got snubbed this year for All-Pro even though I got hurt. But I feel like my stats are as good as those who made it.”
