Former Ohio State quarterback J.T. Barrett has signed a three-year contract with the New Orleans Saints, according to ESPN.
The deal comes after the four-year starter at Ohio State was invited to try out at the Indianapolis Colts' rookie minicamp.
The Buckeyes' all-time leader in every statistical category at quarterback will compete with former Houston Texans starter Tom Savage and second-year player Taysom Hill to be 39-year-old Drew Brees' backup. Hill, a dual-threat QB like Barrett, spent last season primarily on special teams kick coverage and as an emergency backup.
Barrett threw for 3,053 yards with 35 touchdowns and nine interceptions last season for the Buckeyes. He also rushed for 798 yards and 12 touchdowns.
