OBETZ -- Crew SC Head Coach Caleb Porter was beaming Wednesday following his team's fourth day of full team training.
"They're all tearing it up," Porter told ABC-6. "After all we went 13 weeks without doing that thing they we love to do. Everyone is so eager to be back in. It's been unique, the new norm. We don't have the full six weeks to prepare our group. We've been very creative and players done an excellent job keeping fit, maintaining that base so we are ready to play games again."
The Crew is gearing up for the MLS is Back Tournament at the Walt Disney Sports Complex in Orlando next month. "I've read a few stories that said the Crew are a lock to win the group and I hope that's the case." The Crew is paired with the New York Red Bulls, Atlanta United FC and FC Cincinnati in Group E of the tournament. The Crew plan to depart for Florida June 28th and play one friendly there before opening the World Cup style event July 12th.
Porter was asked about the value of the two major building projects underway; Crew Stadium and the Ohio Health Performance Center. "When I interviewed with the Haslam's and Edwards I was fully aware of those and that's was certainly one of the reasons I was interested in the position. Those projects are very important. Both facilities are expected to be completed in the summer of 2021.
