COLUMBUS, Ohio (WSYX/WTTE) -- Columbus Crew SC likely ensured at least one more home match at MAPFRE Stadium this season after a 4-1 win over NYCFC in the first leg of their MLS Eastern Conference semifinal.
Leading scorer Ola Kamara opened the scoring just 6 minutes into the match as Crew SC kept that 1-0 advantage going into halftime.
A red card early in the second half by NYCFC defender Alexander Callens opened things up further for the home team, who answered with goals by Artur and Justin Meram in the 58th and 69th minutes to make it 3-0.
Star forward David Villa willed the visitors back into the tie with goal in the 78th before Harrison Afful added an insurance goal after he beat five defenders in the 93rd minute for the 4-1 final.
The second leg takes place at Yankee Stadium on Sunday at 5 p.m.
