OBETZ -- The Columbus Crew SC had a reunion Friday as Major League Soccer-endorsed full team training returned.
"It was like a new day, the club was energized and the guys were extremely excited to be back," said head coach and manager Caleb Porter. The Crew will be part of the "MLS is Back" Tournament next month in Orlando. "We'll slowly build the group up, and we'll be ready."
The Black and Gold are part of Group E with Atlanta United FC, New York Red Bulls and rival FC Cincinnati. "Every time we face them we treat it like a championship match, it means a lot to our fans," striker Gyasi Zardes said in interviews produced by the franchise.
The Crew SC logged a win and a draw in their first two matches of the 2020 season before COVID-19 intervened.
All 26 MLS teams will compete in Orlando at the Walt Disney World Sports Complex. The event will include knockout rounds and a World Cup feel to the resumption of the regular season.
