Columbus Crew's Jonathan Mensah named to 2020 MLS Best XI

Columbus Crew SC defender Jonathan Mensah has been recognized as one of the top players in Major League Soccer.

Mensah, 30, was named to the 2020 Best MLS XI Friday, a season-long recognition honoring the most outstanding performers in the league during the season.

This is Mensah's first time being named to the MLS Best XI and he is the 12th player in Crew history to earn the honor.

Mensah, who was also a finalist for the 2020 MLS Defender of the Year, was one of only two players in the league to play 2,070 minutes. He played every minute of every match for the Crew this season.

He is in his fourth season with the Crew and his first season as a team captain.

Mensah led the league is blocks, passes, and clearances in the regular season and helped the Crew post nine clean sheets.

He was named to's Team of the Week three times.

Mensah and the Crew return to action Saturday as they take on the New York Red Bulls in the first round of the postseason.
