Columbus Crew shuts out Philadelphia Union 1-0, retakes top spot in Eastern Conference

The Columbus Crew SC has had the best backline in Major League Soccer this season and recorded its seventh clean sheet of the season Wednesday night in a 1-0 victory over the Philadelphia Union.

The Crew (6-1-2) and Philadelphia were locked in a scoreless tie until the 55th minute when Lucas Zelarayan scored his fourth goal the season.

Zelarayan shot from distance and the ball took a deflection and found the back of the net.

With the win, the Crew jumps back into first place in the MLS Eastern Conference. Columbus leads second-place Toronto FC by two points.

The Crew returns to action Sunday when it hosts in-state rival FC Cincinnati at 7:30 p.m.

This will be the third matchup between the rivals this season.

Columbus and Cincinnati played to a 0-0 draw Saturday. In group play of the MLS is Back Tournament, the Crew defeated Cincinnati 4-0.
