The Columbus Crew SC has had the best backline in Major League Soccer this season and recorded its seventh clean sheet of the season Wednesday night in a 1-0 victory over the Philadelphia Union.
The Crew (6-1-2) and Philadelphia were locked in a scoreless tie until the 55th minute when Lucas Zelarayan scored his fourth goal the season.
Zelarayan shot from distance and the ball took a deflection and found the back of the net.
With the win, the Crew jumps back into first place in the MLS Eastern Conference. Columbus leads second-place Toronto FC by two points.
The Crew returns to action Sunday when it hosts in-state rival FC Cincinnati at 7:30 p.m.
This will be the third matchup between the rivals this season.
