Columbus Crew shuts out Atlanta United in group play finale, moves on to Round of 16

The Columbus Crew SC remained perfect in the MLS is Back Tournament Tuesday night as the Black and Gold defeated Atlanta United 1-0 in the final match of group play.

With many regular starters out of the starting 11, Youness Mokhtar's 18th-minute goal was the difference in the Crew's victory.

Mokhtar's goal was preceded by a string of 19 passes.

The Crew collected the maximum nine points in Group E play and did not concede a goal in its three games.

Columbus started the MLS is Back Tournament with a 4-0 win over FC Cincinnati and followed that up with a 2-0 win over the New York Red Bulls.

By winning Group E, the grew advanced to the knockout rounds of the tournament.

The Crew will take on the second place finished in Group D in the round of 16. Real Salt Lake, Minnesota United FC and Sporting Kansas City are all still in contention in Group D.

Columbus' Round of 16 match will be on Tuesday, July 28 at 8 p.m.
