The Columbus Crew SC (7-1-2) currently sits in first place in Major League Soccer's Eastern Conference and its strong defensive performances have landed it at the top of a pair of MLS power rankings lists.

The Crew has conceded just two goals all season, which is the fewest in MLS this season.

Columbus defeated rival FC Cincinnati 3-0 Sunday night in the team's fifth consecutive clean sheet, and eighth of the season.

The victory vaulted the Crew to the top of ESPN's and MLSsoccer.com's MLS power rankings.

The Crew jumped from third to first in ESPN's power rankings.

"Columbus has a five-point gap to its closest challengers in the Supporters' Shield race, a 99% chance of reaching playoffs (according to FiveThirtyEight's Soccer Power Index) and its defensive record through 10 matches (two goals conceded, eight clean sheets) is unmatched in MLS since the Galaxy in 2010," ESPN writers Jeff Carlisle and Austin Lindberg said.

The Crew is also ranked No. 1 in the MLSsoccer.com power rankings where it was ranked No. 4 a week ago.

The Crew lead the Supporters’ Shield race with 23 points and have eight shutouts on the year, vaulting into the Power Rankings' peak. They’re also 2-0-1 against Hell is Real rivals FC Cincinnati this season, and took maximum points from two matches at MAPFRE Stadium last week. Everything's clicking for head coach Caleb Porter's group," MLSsoccer.com writer Jonathan Sigal said.

The Black and Gold have a five-point lead over second-place Philadelphia Union and Toronto FC.

The Crew will return to the pitch Saturday at 3:30 p.m. when it travels to Soldier Field to take on the Chicago Fire FC.

Chicago is currently 13 in the Eastern Conference.
