Police: Shooting outside Walmart that caused scare was over possession of a dog

Police are investigating after a shooting at a Newark Walmart spread concern and caused a large law enforcement response to the store.

The shooting happened outside the store off North 21st Street, according to the Newark Police Chief. He said someone shot at another person, but no one was hit by the gunfire.

People at the store quickly posted on social media about the shooting, wondering what was happening.

According to Walmart, there was a domestic situation in their parking lot and closed the store. They said the store would be reopened soon.

Newark Police said the suspect was identified as 37-year-old Kyle A Daugherty of Newark. He was arrested at the Old Bag of Nails.

The shooting is believed to have been over ownership and possessions of dogs, per police.

Two other arrests were made on unrelated warrants; Christina Ankrom, 40, of Newark and Lauren Dennis, 28, also of Newark.
