A Columbus mother has been charged with the death of her newborn daughter after police say she died from a cocaine and methadone overdose.

Nina Straty, 23, faces charges of involuntary manslaughter and child endangering after her daughter Loucia Kinsell died on April 27.

According to the police report, officers responded to the 400 block of Wyandotte Avenue on a report of a baby not breathing that morning around 8:01 a.m. Officers performed CPR on the one-month-old until Columbus Fire medics pronounced her dead minutes later.

Straty alleged she fell asleep with the baby and when she woke up, her daughter wasn't breathing. The autopsy report by the Franklin County Coroner's Office later confirmed Kinsell died from "acute intoxication by methadone and cocaine."

A Franklin County Grand Jury indicted Straty of the charges on Tuesday where she was subsequently arrested.

It was the city's 126th homicide in 2017.
