Columbus Police investigated a deadly shooting that happened near John Glenn International Airport on Tuesday night.

Officers responded to a reported shooting at East 5th Avenue and North James Road around 9 p.m.

Police said drivers along East 5th Avenue near James Road pulled over when they spotted a man's body in the street. Police said witnesses called 911, and tried to help the victim, who'd been shot at least once.

The victim, who investigators later identified as 42-year-old Ulrich M. Smith, was taken to Grant Medical Center in critical condition. He was pronounced dead at 9:26 p.m.

Police said they don't have a suspect or motive as they continue to investigate.

This was Columbus' 100th homicide of the year.
