COLUMBUS, Ohio (WSYX/WTTE) -- Around 30 OSU students and alumni gathered in front of Thompson Library on The Ohio State University's campus Monday night to honor Westerville Police Officers Anthony Morelli and Eric Joering.
The vigil was marked with poems, prayers and lots of emotion.
“They put their lives on the line everyday so this is the least we could do to honor them,” said co-organizer and OSU student Abby Draiss.
Some students said the fatal shootings hit close to home.
“My dad was a first responder for 911. That was a terrifying feeling for me even though I was really was young and even now every day, you don’t know what could happen,” said co-organizer Sarah Ovchinnikoff.
Students said they wanted to show that "Buckeye Nation" is behind the fallen officers and their families, along with all men and women in blue.
“I thought this was the right thing to do,” said freshman Collin Gosche.
