COLUMBUS, Ohio (WSYX/WTTE)-- There was a special brunch Sunday for a special group of mothers.

The Coalition for the Homeless hosted its 18th annual brunch on Sunday. All of it was an effort to show love and support for those who need it the most on Mother's Day.

Our mothers do so much for each and every one of us. Sunday was a chance to say thank you. It's something most moms probably don't hear enough. Sunday's event was a special tip of the hat to those who give so much.

"This is probably one of the most special events that I've ever seen for Mother's Day. For people who everyday have to struggle and do not ever get to see this kind of a set up. This kind of a beautiful celebration for a beautiful day," said mother Kathleen Evans.

A large number of people lined up for a meal. For many, it was a break from a harsh reality. Mothers were treated like queens.

"This place that we're here at is so nice and all the mothers in here are making us feel so special," said Robin Worthy.

"It's such a help to our spirit. More than anyone would ever know," said Evans.

The emotion was overwhelming for some.

"It's just beautiful and every person in here who is volunteering has left their families to come help us and it's just unbelievable," Evans said.

Around 100 volunteers gave of their time to make a difference for someone else.

"I think it's amazing. I love being a part of this. It's very humbling and it just makes you feel good to be able to serve someone else," said volunteer Charmella Smith.

The gesture of love was certainly appreciated by those in attendance.

"Thank you so much. Thank you for making my Mother's Day so special," said Worthy.

"God bless them and thank them from the bottom of our hearts," said Evans.

The brunch event also included health checks, books for the kids and a number of family-fun activities.
