Nearly every retailer is hiring for the holiday season, and experts predict the holiday hiring is set to hit a multi-year high in 2018.

Retailers are expected to hire more than 700,000 seasonal workers for the holidays. That’s the most since 2015 according a Challenger Gray Christmas analysis of federal jobs data. For example, Target plans to hire 120,000 workers across the country, that’s a 20% increase from last year.

“I think that’s great! I think that shows the economy here is certainly on the upswing,” said shopper Daven Holmquist.

The demand is so high, companies are offering the best perks if you apply. New employees at Target start at $12 an hour, get employee discounts, and other benefits. Kohl’s is expected to hire 90,000 seasonal employees across the country, Macy’s is hiring about 80,000, and JcPenny about 18,000.

“That’s great! It’s always good to have jobs because that’s how you get started, that’s how I got started,” said a former retailer worker Jalyn Thomas. “It pays money, and it pays bills.”

Hat retailer LIDS plans to hire more than 3,500 new employees nationwide. There are more than dozen LIDS stores in Central Ohio and they’re all looking for full time, part-time, and seasonal workers.

“We are hosting open interview sessions, tomorrow, at all concepts company wide so we got LIDS, LIDS Locker Room, LIDS Locker Room by Macy’s, and specifically here in Columbus Buckeye Corner,” said LIDS manager Nicki Scott.

Employers said they’re always in need of extra help especially during the holidays but it can be a tough job to fill.

“Working the holidays in retail is crazy,” said Thomas. “That’s one word to sum it up, crazy! I’m trying to survive Thanksgiving first before I get ready for Christmas.”

LIDS will be holding a job fair Thursday at all their stores from 4pm to 7pm. LIDS is offering competitive wages that will vary by position and market. In addition, LIDS offers bonuses and great employee discounts. For more information visit their website.
